7. Eat Slowly, Chew Thoroughly, and Stop When You’re Full

 

Thoughtful eating is a great way to prevent overeating. It takes a bit of time (around 20 minutes) for your body to realize its full so when you eat very quickly it is difficult to determine when to stop. Chewing thoroughly is very important. The more you chew, the slower you eat, and the more you help your digestive system out. Read more reasons why chewing can help you lose weight here.

 

8. Drink Enough Water

 

The easiest way to keep hydrated is to make sure you keep a water bottle with you at all times. Your body can actually mistake thirst for hunger so if you are someone who doesn’t drink water regularly; try drinking some the next time you are feeling snack-ish. You can also get your fluids in the form of soups and herbal teas, but black tea and coffee do not count towards your daily water intake as their caffeine contents act as a diuretic. 9. Keep Active

 

You don’t have to run a marathon to lose weight (in fact, that is probably counterproductive), but keeping your body moving is important for weight loss and overall health. Strength training especially will help you gain more muscle which will help get rid of unwanted fat. It is important to remember that your weight is just a number, and depending on your size you may actually gain weight as you gain more muscle. Track your progress by measurements/appearance as opposed to the scale. If you are a woman, don’t worry about bulking up; unless you are drinking crazy amounts of high-carb builder protein powders you have nothing to worry about. I repeat; you will not bulk up. It is also important to remember that you should keep active throughout the day. Working out for 1 hour and then being sedentary the other 23 hours of the day is not really ideal. The best would be to do a few different activities daily such as stretching in the morning, walk at lunch, and then a more intense work out in the evening to keep your body moving throughout the day. For strength training I really like +blogilates on Youtube, and +TaraStiles yoga routines are great for flexibility and strength as well.

 

10. Get Enough Sleep

 

They call it beauty sleep for a reason! Sleep has a huge effect on your hormones. Generally it is recommended that you get around 8 hours of sleep a night, but everybody is different. Some people need 9-10 hours per night. People really need to stop looking for someone else to tell them what their body needs. If you don’t feel great after an 8 hour sleep, sleep more! Sleep as long as you need. A good night of sleep can do wonders. Sleep can even help improve your athletic performance!

When you don’t sleep properly you won’t be able to make your best decisions the next day. You may slip up and eat junk food, or you may skip your work out because you are too tired. You will also crave sugar or other stimulants to give you that temporary alertness. So try not to put yourself through all that by hitting the pillow a little earlier than usual! 11. Don’t Rely on Weight Loss Pills and Miracle Cures

 

Dr. Oz can say some crazy s***. There will always be some advertisement for miracle weight loss pills, and I’m sure some of them do work to some extent, but it doesn’t replace healthy, natural weight loss. I generally question how well these pills were researched before being put on the market, and what kind of side effects they may have. Similarly, miracle cures such as the HCG diet are not only questionable as weight loss methods, they may also be dangerous to your health (source). The money you spend on weight loss pills would be better spent on whole foods and a yoga/gym pass.

 

12. Be Patient With Yourself

 

Losing weight takes time. Especially if you have a lot to lose; it can take a while to get the results you are looking for. Be kind to yourself, celebrate the small wins, and you will find yourself at your goals before you know it!
